Dryer Duct Cleaning: What Are the Types Of Dryer Vent Tubing?

Dryer duct cleaning is an important aspect of home maintenance that often goes neglected. Lint build-up can cause a fire due to restricted air movement and heat coming from your dryer. That’s why Superior Air Duct Cleaning offers dryer duct cleaning as a service. In today’s blog, we look at the five different types of dryer vent tubing.

1. Rigid Metal Ducts

Rigid metal ducts are the only type that is suitable for dryer vent ducts that are concealed. This type of dryer vent ductwork travels through walls and floors where the duct can’t be seen. The inside edges are entirely smooth, so rigid metal ducts collect the smallest amount of lint as time passes. Dryer duct cleaning is the easiest for rigid ductwork. Rigid metal ducts are made of galvanized steel or aluminum.

2. Slim Ducts

Slim ducts are small pipes designed for places that don’t have a lot of room. They are narrower than rigid metal ducts, and they are adjustable from 27 to 48 inches in length. Slim ducts also serve as a way to transition from a smaller to a larger space. Dryer duct cleaning for slim ducts is similar to how we clean rigid metal ducts.

3. Semi-Rigid Metal Ducts

Semi-rigid metal ducts offer an excellent choice for people who want something with a bit of flexibility and durability. These aluminum ducts bend slightly, and they serve as a transition from the dryer exhaust to the main dryer duct in the wall or floor. Semi-rigid metal ducts don’t gather as much lint as flexible designs, which makes them easier for dryer duct cleaning.

4. Plastic Ducts

Plastic ducts are usually made of vinyl. They’re flexible, and they have thin walls. Modern building codes generally do not allow plastic ducts. That’s because the flexible ductwork easily collects lint, which could catch fire. You’ll definitely need regular dryer duct cleaning with plastic ducts.

5. Aluminum Foil Ducts

Aluminum foil ducts are the most common dryer vent ducts used in the United States. Foil ducts are made of shiny metal, are flexible, run anywhere from 1 to 8 feet in length, and have a ribbed texture to them. You can bend foil ducts into almost any shape you need. Aluminum foil ducts create a transition from your dryer to the vent or rigid ductwork that leads to the outside. For dryer duct cleaning, we recommend checking aluminum foil ducts at least once a month.
